I’ve always wanted to do a bit of Ellingham Hall Wedding Photography. Throughout 2016 I’ve been gradually chipping away at my bucket list of venues. I could not wait to shoot Claire and Graham’s wedding. A lovely couple who were getting married at a wonderful venue. A wedding taking place on Fireworks Night….this was a day that would go with a bang.
I woke up nice and early on the morning of the wedding. I opened the curtains and the sky was black! The trees were swaying back and forth in the wind. To put it bluntly the weather was grim! And there was a bit of snow coming out of those clouds. Well that wasn’t on the script! I headed over to Ellingham Hall, making my across the 7 miles or so of country roads from base…..deftly avoiding the army of pheasants that were clearly on a kamikaze mission that morning!
As I walked through the doors of Ellingham Hall, the final touches were being made to the hall and the cake was being delivered. This was yet another masterpiece by the Master Cakesmith! Upstairs, Claire was sat in front of a mirror having her hair done. In a side room, her dress hung from a hook with her shoes placed below on the floor. And on the dresser was Claire’s perfume and garter belt. In the main room all was calm!
Downstairs the guests were now arriving. In the lounge the fire was roaring and blazing hot. People huddled in front of it as they thawed out from the walk from the car park. They filed into the room where the ceremony would take place. Their a stringed duet entertained them as they waited. Outside the room Graham paced about and shed a few tears as the nerves and emotions got to him. He headed in and waited, checking his watch every few minutes.
Claire now made her way downstairs and waited to be given the nod to make her grand entrance. Her two bridesmaids and flower girl entered the room and then as Claire entered everyone craned their necks to try and catch a glimpse. Graham grinned and cried. The ceremony was short and sweet and included a candle lighting ceremony.
After the ceremony we decided to stay inside. It was snowing outside and blowing a gale. So we headed to the stairs and played around there getting some shots. Claire and Graham then mingled with guests before heading to the Chapel for their wedding breakfast.
Claire’s Dad began the speeches. As he spoke about his daughter he kept pausing to catch his breath and fight the tears back. Graham had similar issues. They were two touching speeches. And they preceded a hilarious bestman speech. Think a cross between a stand up comic and a business presentation. It was a bit like one of Dave Gorman’s stand up shows. Embarrassing images of Graham were beamed onto the wall above the head table! Each time one popped up, Graham would turn and look up and then turn back with his head in his hands. Priceless!
Now that the sun had dropped and the rain/snow had stopped we all headed outside to play with some sparklers before heading in for the first dance. The giant letters provided by Coco Luminaire illuminated the dance floor. They danced and twirled before Andrew from AM DJ Services cranked the tunes up. The dance floor filled and the whole place went mental.
Despite the weather, it goes to show that it doesn’t spoil a fantastic wedding! We made the best of it and had an absolute blast! Thank you Claire and Graham for an amazing day!
